NMEA note recieved

Hi,

I've a problem getting my laptop connected to the NMEA on board.
I'm running windows 10.
My electronic is NKE, GPS is a garmin 158i and i got a Actisence NDC4 multiplexer, and an Alten UC 232 A com to USB converter.

In the hyperterminal I can see all the NMEA sentences that look correct :
$GPGSA,A,3,02,06,12,14,24,25,26,29,31,32,49,,1.9,1 .3,1.4*3F
$GPGLL,4823.6609,N,00425.7962,W,095009,A,D*58
$IIMTW,24.3,C*16
$GPBOD,259.5,T,263.3,M,LINZEN V W,*53
$IIMWV,301,R,8.3,N,A*2A
....
so I guess they are getting in the laptop!

in opencpn with the same port configuration I don't see anything !

I've installed the debugger. The first windows NMEA it stays blank. In the window NMEA event i get
Cog: -1.#IND00, Hdm: -1.#IND00, Hdt: -1.#IND00, Lat: 48.394300, Lon: -4.430000, Sog: -1.#IND00, Var: -1.773915, nSats: 0, Fixtime: 0

What did I miss ?

Thanks for your help.

Re: NMEA note recieved

if it works in hyperterm then it works. The comm port can only be used by one app at a time, and hyperterm sometimes does not release the port properly. Do cold reset (machine right off) and go directly to Opencpn. Use the same com port settings as those that worked in Hyperterm. If that does not work, delete your opencpn.ini file (or rename it) then restart opencpn - it will create a new .ini but your settings will be lost. Re-create the com port in OCPN again. Should go...
Ive seen this a couple of times - when the setup was correct, but no data received. I'm not sure on the specific issue, but in both cases deleting the .ini fixed it. Good luck.

Be aware that windows might change your com-port number when restarting or replugging your usb connector.

Re: NMEA note recieved

In the OpenCPN connection configuration did you enable the NMEA sentences? Way down at the bottom of the connection definition you have to go through the Input Filtering section and add the sentences that should be accepted (you can use the "select all" function for fastest testing).

Re: NMEA note recieved

Filtering is OFF by default.

It might be helpful to see a screenshot of the COM settings plus the log file.

Re: NMEA note recieved

I'm currently running 4.2.0 and input and output filtering default to "Accept Only Sentences" with a blank sentence list. Leaving it in this state I get the same results as OP. Opening the input filter list and using "Select All" completes the filter list dialog and things work.

Re: NMEA note recieved

Sorry long time without internet while cruising.
I got it to work by not clicking the garmin input (even if my GPS is a garmin).

Every fine. And thanks for your help.

Next goal will be to get open cpn to work with the pilot....
