Yes, known bug - FS#709 : 2.6.1310 crashes when opening AIS target query

If you have followed the thread "Tide Units" you will be aware of some of the problems with OpenCPN and tides.

What about.....if a mark could include a command as well as an URL.
If we could run
Code:
xtide -l "Patos Island Wharf"
as a link in the properties dialog. Well then all the xtide stations could be developed into regional layers, and we would avoid some headache and simplify OpenCPN.
I don't know how this would affect Windows though.

Something like this:
Attachment 37529

Thomas
This has worked fine for me,in XP, as alink, using wxtide to open a certain tide station. So ,Indeed, the solution already exists as a bunch of marks loaded, as far as I'm concerned. But, setting them all up for somebody else, is a huge task isn't it?...Maybe just provide a list of tidestation positions...

Code:
D:\KEEPERS\Navigation\TIDE+CURRENTextraPrgrms\wxtide47\wxtide32.exe -location "Port Blackney"

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Thomas...
My crystal ball predicts a major user support nightmare if we do it like this Changes to tides & currents, yes, they probably have to be done.
But they have to be well separated from anything navobjects related and, if possible, not rely on a third-party tool being present because it can be XTide, WXTide, JTides, whatever and it may or may not be in the path and, if we will bundle such a tool to be sure it's present, Hamish will get unhappy etc...

OK, that is worth thinking about.
I have some more ideas here.

Pavel..

I was using an XML editor but perhaps not so safe... I downloaded and used your suggested XML Copy Editor which solved all my problems, thanks.

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Pavel

I think that I found a bug. This may have hit Tore at times.

Open the properties of any mark. Edit/Change the values of Lat&Long. Close.
Now, .... the icon is still there but OpenCPN does not recognize the mark.
Properties does not come up on the right click menu.

Go to Route manager/Wpts. The mark is listed here. Export the mark, then delete it and finally import again. Now everything is alright.

Right you are, looks like I'm not updating the navobject list properly on the waypoint save.

Thanks

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Thomas..

I did the following and had no problems:

1.Import BRAZIL.gpx group POI file
2.Select WPT and edit geo loc.
3.Export BRAZIL.gpx to layers
4.Re-start OCPN
5.POI has changed to required geo loc and all URL's safe

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Pavel..

Is there any way you could deny access to editing while in layers modus?
I.e. when you access a WPT while in the default layers modus, the Edit facility should not be available. It is SO easy when you start off just doing a Mark/properties request to forget you are in the default layers modus, and VERY annoying, when later you find none of your hard work has been saved.
Happened to me several times.

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Tore...
If you are using the latest build from http://opencpn.xtr.cz/opencpn.exe, it shouldn't be the case anymore. In case you open the properties af a WPT being part of a layer, the dialog should be read-only and contain an information message.

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Pavel..

Sorry, must have missed this upgrade. Perhaps the top warning should read:
"This waypoint is part of a layer and can't be edited here."
Because it can be edited in the WPT area.

Thanks,great work!

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Pavel/Thomas..

Is there any way you could create a facility to read/poll data from the SPOT Globalstar database in .xml and display it in OCPN like our AIS facility?

There's a fellow in Nashville who has created a very useful SPOT monitoring program called SpotWalla. Here is a live example from Paul's holiday cruise from Florida to Cuba:
SpotWalla - Trip Viewer - Winter 2012 trip
Perhaps you could talk with him?

There are thousands of SPOT users around the world and it would mean being able to monitor their movements over the world oceans as the system transmits it's GPS position by satellite to the Globalstar receiving stations. AIS is only available along the coast where there are receiving stations. Spot Messenger units as well as the data subscriptions are also very in-expensive.

How do you delete a URL in a POI?

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Tore...
If you right-click the link, there's a context menu.

Will add SpotWalla somewhere to my always growing to-do list - scripting something that downloads the GPX should be pretty trivial.
I see I'm probably the only one staying in a cold place this winter - last year these days drinking beers in Iguazu it was sure better
