is there a way to customize chart colours?

Hello,

I am displaying openCpn on a grayscale monitor ( a repurposed Kindle Paperwhite )
The normal colour scheme is a bit low on contrast.
I was wondering if there is a way to manipulate the colours of the map rendering.

Maybe I need to change the source code and recompile?
Or can I mess with some config files?

Thanks for all pointers
