I wrote the
Boat Beacon
internet AIS app for Android and
iPhone after a near miss with a dredger. It uses live real time
AIS feeds from around the world, many of the receivers and aerials I have paid for myself, other feeds are kindly provided by volunteers. The coverage is pretty good around the coasts world-wide.
I was wondering if there would be any interest from the
OpenCPN users out there for a live
internet NMEA AIS feed via my app?
Boat Beacon could provide a local UDP or TCP port for
OpenCPN to connect to (just as you would for an AIS over
WiFi or lan cable). Boat Beacon itself will be getting the AIS data from my server and then relaying it over TCP/UDP to OpenCPN.
Just a thought. Hopefully I will not be shot down in flames for suggesting this.....
