Re: Help / FAQ

Hakan, I don't know, something was blocking it. If I find out, I will let you know. It was strange to me, it never was before.

Re: Help / FAQ Digimaps

Hello All,

New to the forum and to OpenCPN software.

I am trying to upload some marine charts I have downloaded from Digimaps, for an inshore area of the UK. I have a "large" raster charts folder, and if possible to display, also some Marine Digital Elevation Model data. In "Chart Files" in settings I have went Add Directory -> Selected folder that contains raster files (contains TIF, OVR, INFO AND AUX files for each part of the downloaded data) -> clicked scan charts and update database and force full database rebuild -> prepare all ENC charts and apply. Nothing is showing up however.
Can anyone advise where I may be going wrong? Any help is massively appreciated!

Re: Help / FAQ

OpenCPN does not currently support these (Guessing from the file extensions). If the files are GeoTIFF, you can use the Photolayer plugin to display them as overlay. Or convert them to either KAP or MBtiles which both are supported.

Re: Help / FAQ

If QGIS can read them then you can write them out as mbtiles, which OpenCpn can read.

Re: Help / FAQ

OR if they are many and a batch conversion is more convenient, refer to eg. https://github.com/UrbanSystemsLab/raster-to-mbtiles

Re: Help / FAQ

When creating a route the chart is not moving when I want to set a new waypoint outside the allready shown area. Is there any Key I have to press during moving the cursor around?

Re: Help / FAQ

Both holding the mouse cursor near the edge of the screen and pressing arrow keys on the keyboard should pan the view while drawing a route. They do for me on macOS as well as all the other systems.

Re: Help / FAQ

Using the keyboard is better than using a mouse in some conditions. + and - keys (and alt + and -) for zooming in and out is super useful. Check out the help file for all the keyboard controls.

how to sync data by cloud

Hi,

ist there any way to change the data directory of opencpn?
I do not mean the chart directory.

I would like to synchronize the data of some plugins, e.g logbook, findit and tracks and routes.

Re: Help / FAQ

for molly21
  • Start OpenCPN
  • Select Options from the toolbar and go to the Plugins tab.
  • Select the Logbook plugin
  • Click the Preferences button
  • In the dialog click “Install” below the label “Install Layouts”
  • In the file dialog select the file 'LogbookKonni_Layouts.zip'
Note that the layouts are customisable by the user and can be distributed to and shared with other OpenCPN logbook users. If you have developed a useful custom layout for your logbook then please feel free to send us details.

Re: Help / FAQ

For that you have to create network for different computers. In that case outsider can access your data. It will have to be hard wired.

For web operation there can be some tricks but who knows.

Re: Help / FAQ

Thanks, but my question is if it is possible to install OpenCPN using another directory folder than some of the typical OS folders.
