Tried sasplanet? Allows access to many satellite resources plus a couple of nav chart options. Simple to save as mbtile which opencpn v5 can view. Saving the google sat data unshackles the machine for the web for viewing. Works great

This is certainly not going to work long-term. Google can mess this up. We can't do anything at all about it.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

BTW until they do kill it completely, this popped from my notes to make even newer GE versions provide the "removed" COM API the the plugin uses:

Create a new registry key at
Code:
Local Machine\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{8097D7E9-DB9E-4AEF-9B28-61D82A1DF784}\LocalServer32
with the contents being path of you GE installation executable (no quotes), like:

Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe"
I am not developing or using this plugin anymore for several years and actually don't even have any Windows machine so can't say if it will also work for GE Pro (might) or 64 bit version (probably not)

Thx. I'll stick to the old GE now until it stops.

Sat2Chart (formerly called GE2KAP) can create and edit mbtiles charts, even those created from other sources. You can get it here:
http://gdayii.ca/Downloads/Sat2Chart.V3.0.2.0.exe

Re: Google Earth Plugin

I come back to the operation of the GE plugin with O5.0. I made a thorough update of the page, related to GE, the French website opencpn.fr.

This led me to do many tests and I came to see clearly that:

1°)
On my two PCs, under W10, it's difficult, even impossible to un-docked the GE window. Once it is hung, whether left or right, it remains hooked.

This is really unpleasant, especially since if you hang the GE window on the left, then the vertical bar icon OpenCPN remains above the GE window.
The simplest way would be to prevent the user from hanging the window on the left.

2°)
The slider, located in the plugin settings, to adjust the transparency level has no effect.

In fact, since it is impossible to pick up the window of GE to overlay one of the canvas, this cursor could be deleted.

But it would be better to be able to superpose the window of GE with one of the canvas.

3 °)
A last test of this morning with two canvas.
The GE window is docked to the right. If I widen the width of the GE window as much as possible, everything happens as if I have only one panel.
It does not matter, but it surprises.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Hi all,
Got a question for anybody that knows how KML and KMZ files operate (I don't).

On my desktop computer I'm running OpenCPN 5.0.0 and the OS is WinXP, for trip planning purposes.

When I start Google Earth Pro, I get the pop up message:

"KML and KMZ files are currently set to open with an application other than Google Earth. Would you like to change this association so that KML and KMZ files open with Google Earth?" <Restore> <Don't Restore>

I always click <Don't Restore>. I figure the "other application" is OpenCPN and I don't want to screw anything up.

What should I be doing here?

Ryan

Re: Google Earth Plugin

And what is your actual problem, if any?

OpenCPN does not care about KML and KMZ files, sure did not associate itself as the default handler for them and even if you did it manually somehow, it will not care that you clicked the other button in Google Earth to make it the default viewer for them.
What actually is the default handler for KML/KMZ currently set on your system you can find in the system preferences (how is described for example in https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-chan...indows-2624477)

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Nohal, I should have been more specific about the problem.

When I click <Don't Restore> I can open a Google Earth session as a plugin within OpenCPN.

When I click <Restore> then the GE plugin opens a blank window.

I followed the link you gave, but the list of "Registered programs" doesn't tell me what the other program is. But if OpenCPN doesn't care about KML/KMZ files, as you say, I will not worry about this anymore.

Cheers,
Ryan

If using Sat2Chart (not Sat2Nav) with SAS Planet as a map source, create the mbtiles chart but select 'Edit Final Chart' before pressing 'Create Chart'. Then use the editor to crop the chart if you want a smaller chart than what is displayed on SAS Planet. But that's if you haven't zoomed in enough to see what you want.

But please explain 'to fit correctly on OpenCPN'. Don't understand what you mean.
