GARMIN SMALL 55 CV CHART PLOTTER

Does anyone have any experience with this small Garmin 55 C V GPS chart plotter .. I have been using another small Garmin 400 series plotter for about 12 years but its time to update and would like to hear from anybody who is using this 55 C V unit. The built in Navionics charts on this new unit may not be as good as the older Garmin east coast Australia card we have always used and is probably not inter changeable Many Thanks Ron

Re: GARMIN SMALL 55 CV CHART PLOTTER

The Garmin EchoMap 55CV is a discontinued model but it looks very similar to the EchoMap 54CV which I have. My 54CV is very satisfactory. One feature I particularly like is the ability to do your own survey and draw 1-foot contour lines on your chart.

Re: GARMIN SMALL 55 CV CHART PLOTTER

The chart plotter will guide you over a body of water, showing where you have been. The feature is called "Garmin Quickdraw Contours Mapping". From the manual:

"The Garmin Quickdraw Contours mapping feature allows you to
instantly create maps with contours and depth labels for any
body of water.
"When Garmin Quickdraw Contours records data, a colored
circle surrounds the vessel icon. This circle represents the
approximate area of the map that is scanned by each pass.
A green circle indicates good depth and GPS position, and a
speed under 16 km/h (10 mph). A yellow circle indicates good
depth and GPS position, and a speed between 16 and 32 km/h
(10 and 20 mph). A red circle indicates poor depth or GPS
position, and a speed above 32 km/h (20 mph).
"You can view Garmin Quickdraw Contours in a combination
screen or as a single view on the map."
