Flpak 5.8.4 install problem

I had 5.8.4 running under OpenPlotter but have removed this (various problems) and have reinstalled RPi 64bit OS. Following the instructions on install for Flatpak (which covers 5.6 in the manual) I have only managed to install 5.7.1 OpenCPN. When I try to update this to 5.8.4 the system says there isn't anything to update.

However, under OpenPlotter I had OpenCPN FP installed and it was up to date.

What might i be doing wrong?

Solved. I think I used an older description. Too much junk instruction around!

All working now, but can't seem to change title to say SOLVED.

Phillip please post a link to the manual you are using.

If it is correct, we will need to update the page and will want your suggested corrections.

Re: Flpak 5.8.4 install problem

I am afraid that I don't know where the page was anymore. I spent some two weeks attempting to resolve my problem with lots of seeking, finding and rejecting information. It would be good to see one central resource for OpenCPN as a stand alone system.

I have gone back to sailing for the rest of the season but over the winter will look to how I can use Pypilot as a service rather than via OpenPlotter and SignalK. The latter approach is fine when it works, but the lack of documentation when it doesn't is time consuming and difficult.

I think OpenCPN is really all that I (and perhaps most users) need. So an up to date, simple and clearly explained way to update would be useful. The manual page at:

https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...lation:flatpak

is not up to date, for example.

OpenCPN is brilliant, by the way.

Looks like you were looking in the "Old" 2021 user manual.
what about the current page of instructions? https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...lation:flatpak

Yes, I see that this is the correct one. It isn't obvious that the old one is the old one!

Edit: plus the reference to serial devices may have been the solution to my problem with Pypilot ...

Ah, so it is. My fault.

However, what more could you do: maybe a bit more obvious if it had "OLD VERSION" on the text. I got there via google searching and didn't look at the index, just the text.

Re: Flpak 5.8.4 install problem

Phillip good point. Will add that to the begining of each section.
However in the Dokuwiki outline it is readily visible as part of OLD 2021 - XXXX now.

And the top of the manual has always said OLD User Manual now it says OLD 2021 User Manual.

I am not going to add this to every page.
