Chart groups selection by keyboard on Raspberry

Hello everybody, I need some help concerning the selection of chart groups on OpenCPN 5.8.4 on my Raspberry 3B+ operating Openplotter.


On my laptop, I am able to select the chart groups using the numerical keys and that is very useful.


On my RPI this is possible only when I use the virtual keyboard but not with an external keyboard, despite the fact that the keyboard respond perfectly with the calculator. Did some Raspberry user has experimented the same issue?

On my RPi4 my external keyboard works as usual. That's the upper keys, not the numerical.

Finally, I have made a trial with an other keyboard and I got the same behavior. All the number's keys are working fine on my Raspberry, even for OpenCPN's functions like configuration.


The choice of chart group is possible using the virtual keyboard or by the right click on the mouse, but not using the material keyboard. Very curious for me.


This is maybe specific to the Raspberry 3B, to Openplotter or both together, but why? I would be happy to get some other feedback from user of Raspberry 3B.


Curiously, I got exactly the same behavior when using VNC Viewer to control the Raspberry.

Look at the settings for the keyboard. That can be the cause of the problem.


Perhaps you have the wrong settings activated. Then the keys are different.

Thanks for your suggestion, but on all applications excepted chart groups selection the keys are responding as expected. I hope to get the attention of one of the developers to get an explanation of this behavior.

One thought: You say the "numerical keys". The chart groups don't use the numerical keys on the right, but the digits in the upper row of a usual keyboard. Above qwerty... ???

@Hakan, thanks for your suggestion but I have tested with both groups of keys, same result. Both are working fine with the calculator for example but none for the chart group selection.

I have finally found a part of the explanation, I forget to say that I am using a french keyboard. After changing the configuration to US keyboard (azerty to qwerty) the chart group selection works correctly with the upper numerical keys. This problem doesn't occurs on the W8 laptop. I will try to inform the developers of this issue.
