canadian charts on linux

Hello,

Has anyone figured out how to get Canadian raster charts to work with the Linux (Ubuntu) version of OCPN?

Cheers, ....Erik.

Erik...
It's not possible, your only chance for now is to run Windows version of OpenCPN in Wine or a virtual machine.

There will be a solution for vector charts under Linux once we have finished the S-63 plug-in.

Hi Hubert,

I'm sure a lot of people will be happy about that.

Alas, the vector charts for the BC coast cost $1800, which is a little beyond my budget.

Do you know if there are any plans to support BSB4?

Cheers, ....Erik.

Re: canadian charts on linux

No, sorry - the BSB plug-in is using a Windows-only 3rd party SDK.

With respect to the cost of vector charts: the chart suppliers are aware that their pricing is not suited for the recreational user. We are just not their target audience.

But in this moment they have no solution.
And yes, the Canadian charts are from the most expensive group.
For the Canadian NW I counted about 4 general charts, 20 coastal, 95 approach and 110 harbour maps, total aprox. 230 cells. If you calculate with a price of 10$ per cell they even gave a discount.

Time will show.....

Re: canadian charts on linux

A BSB 4 plugin for Linux is not likely to appear, but it is not impossible.
For the full story check the original BSB 4 -plugin thread, and particularly this post http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...tml#post668882 .
It looks like nobody was interested in this offer.
