AIVDO and AIVDM

Hi guys.
May I know why OpenCPN only processes AIVDO messages and not AIVDM? I'm quite confused here. Isn't AIVDM contains information about other ships? Why do we not process that and process AIVDO which comes from our own ship instead?

Please correct me if I got my concepts wrong.

Re: AIVDO and AIVDM

I believe that OCPN processes both AIVDO and AIVDM. My only AIS data comes from my Class-B transponder and OCPN displays AIS data for my own boat and of course for other vessels.

Re: AIVDO and AIVDM

Choon...

You are partially correct.

AIVDO messages relate to "Ownship", AIVDM to other ships.

OpenCPN uses AIVDO for ownship positioning, if available, and uses AIVDM for AIS target tracking.
