ais on open cpn

Hello All,

I have looked in the custom search but it is always hard for me to find what I exactly need. So sorry if this question is asked already 1000 times, probably it is.

I have (like) to buy a ais transponder that I can connect on my laptop via usb, the rs232 port will be in use for the radio.
I am using open cpn.
Is it possible to overlay the AIS information on the maps in Open cpn? So that it's both working at the same time.
If yes, what is the best ais transponder for this set up? And do I need a plugin or something like that?

Thank you for your answer.

Regards, Mark.

Hi Mark,

Yes you can see http://opencpn.org/ocpn/ais
No need for a plugin if you want to display on top of the map.
If however you want a view without chart objects cluttering the view you can use the ais radar view plugin

Regards
Johan

Re: ais on open cpn

Hi,

Yes Raymarine is nice. But i am looking for something around €500,- the Raymarine 650 cost here about €.850,-

Can i just use any USB AIS? It's not mention't on the ocpn site, as far as I can see.

Do you know if the site from Open cpn with all its info is available in downloadable pdf?

Marco.
