Re: Wife is close to axing cruising dreams

I used to work with a guy who had a classic T-top corvette, few miles, impeccable shape. He also had a nice sailboat, make evades me. Then he married the woman of his dreams. A couple years into it she told him to sell the vette (I strongly suggested he sell her) and he did sell the car. Sometime later she told him to sell the boat - he did. A year or so later she divorced him and took half the money and the house.

Re: Wife is close to axing cruising dreams

Maybe it would be best for the wife to just hang out at home and the OP just get a First Mate:

A lot of good advise given, do think you need to understand what she likes and doesn't and fine tune the plan to make it work, I agree with the fly in to start, the hop around when she is onboard down south, if not everything you dreamed of or her's you can then sell the boat/down size, but I would give it a short trial.

+1

CABO!!! That place is a cesspool of scam artists and drug dealers. Go to La Paz or P.V.

++1, Show her what the goal is, fly down to P. V. and hang in La Cruz for a long weekend. PM me if you want a recommendation of a great place to stay that's on the beach and a 2 minute walk to the marina.

Re: Wife is close to axing cruising dreams

SoCal presents certain built in issues. Beautiful weather but not really any good destinations. You are fascinated with the boat, she thinks going out for the day and tacking around is BORING! Then not only do you ask her to go on a very long (OMG) excruciating ultra boring voyage, you have the gall to spend thousands of dollars in service of this abuse. You lack a viable context, she is not engaged.

You may find a serious hidden motive in all this. You may be interfering with part of her life that is considered none of your business. The difficult part is that you are not aware (by design). You could try having her fly in but it would be wise to be sure of what is really going on. You might come home and find the locks changed.

These things suck but they are real. It keeps lawyers in business. The answer lies in what you don't know.

Im amused at some of the suggestions. They just spent thousands more than they thought and the (public) worry on Mrs part is the spending of money. Then some of you suggest spending thousands more to get her interested by jetting all over the place.

LAX to P.V., Round trip - $450/each, beach casa - $100/night, street tacos - $1. Seems like a cheap price to save both the dream and a marriage.
