Richelieu or Erie for Azimut 62S?

I have been reading extensively on this and other forums of people's experience on both these routes and I have to make the decision within the next 60 days.
The boat is a 2008 Azimut 62S and on paper her 5ft foot draft makes it easily possible. My only concern is this shallow spot the sailboaters talk about, but i am of course without keel. I will monitor water levels at the fork and make my final decision then.

My questions are:

Would you choose the much more direct route through the Richelieu?
Or
The safe route used daily by commercial traffic but more than twice as long.

And

Any US citizens here that have experience with the Richelieu and would like to come on board to consult?

Here is a boring video displaying the boat http://youtu.be/YOf_PS1C-TY
