I'll go with peace. No matter how messed up my life is at times, or how miserable I feel at times, all I have to do is go down to the dock, climb aboard and everything goes away for a while. I don't even have to leave the dock. I can sit in the cockpit for hours, with nothing more than the passing clouds as entertainment.
Freedom comes later, after I get Sabre Dance sorted out, and tell my employer where to shove it. Soon.

I have the same feeling when I go to my boat. I would use the word "contentment", myself, but how you describe it is just how I feel.
Many a weekend I just go sit on the boat at the dock and watch the people, boats, porpoises, otters, birds, clouds, ripples, and the occasional Air Force fighter or transport thunder over.
This past weekend, after snow storm and a coupla weeks hovering around freezing, it turned warm and at the dock it was 70 degrees.
I just sat there basking in contentment.

Sea
It was not the reflection of the sunset in her eyes falling from the sky resting upon the sea, the mirror to her soul:
It was not her scent that rested in the trees, a mist embracing, caressing, dancing slowly through my mind:
It was not her smile that drifted silently across my spirit, a gentle breeze, soaring, carrying me aloft:
It was the sound of her soul, washing over me, a hushed whisper, trickling drop by drop, a gentle surf upon my beach

Lucky bugger! My boat is buried under a foot of snow, surrounded by drifts a couple of feet high. Aside from going down every once in a while to check the cover, there's nothing I can do til at least mid March.

Excitement
The excitement of getting the boat ship shape,
The excitement of planning the voyage,
The excitement of casting off,
The excitement of what the weather brings,
The excitement of making my landfall,
The excitement of thinking about that first beer on arrival,

I am in the same position. When my shop isn't to cold, i go out and work
on my solid oak chain locker which will be mounted on the fore deck since
there is no room below. I feel like i'm connected to her at least. She is an
hour and a half away, not easy to go visit in winter, i think i'm falling in
love. So i will use the word (love) for this thread.

Touchstone
It sets the standard of all that is wonderful.
Yet, at the same time, instantly highlights the banality of everything else.

And all of what's said before. A day on a boat beats a year a work.
