Repeater for ancient Seafarer 700 depth sounder

Have a Perfect working order Ancient Depth sounder - Seafarer 700
but missing the depth reading in the cockpit - thus looking for a suitable repeater that was available from the manufacturer before they went bust

have the repeater cable connected with 4 cores line and sitting coiled up in some cupboard

searching online resulted in ppl finding solutions from Nasa marine - contacted them and they said "not made for the last 20yrs and all personel that knew what signal was coming out of the seafarer retired"
manual does not say what the signal output was actually electrically...

anyone knows of a suitable display? a simple way to convert the signal to a display? the actual output of the seafarer?
perfect working order piece of equipment thats a shame to throw...

otherwise - i have an airmar plug in speed log connected to raymarine dsm300 (dsm300 was just removed) and i also don't need the speed log - so i thought if no solution for the seafarer maybe next haul out i will plug a new depth sensor and modern display - surely one can be fitted to the same hole as the airmar

Re: Repeater for ancient Seafarer 700 depth sounder

Airmar has made many if not all of the depth and speed sensors for branded navigation instruments for a long time. The depth sensors usually resonate 200 KHZ, though some older ones resonate at 180 KHZ. There are more than one model and size of speed/paddelwheel sensors, but it seems like all of the depth sensors are the same size. Their website will provide specific data.

Re: Repeater for ancient Seafarer 700 depth sounder

Thanks Mickeyrouse but...
one side of the boat has Airmar B744 sensor (some boat shaped fairing glued under the boat) connected to Raymarine DSM300 but shows nothing on the chartplotter

can i gut out the speed sensor plug in and replace it with a modern maybe ultrasonic sensor connected to a modern repeater? is such a item available as a direct fit?

other side of the boat has a depth sounder with coax cable connected to a seafarer 700 located in nav station - it works but has no repeater
looking online it is 180khz, i have the manual and it is ancient english made
even if Airmar made the sensor they didnt make the seafarer that translates the signa to blinking light and push out some signal for a repeater right?

I admire packrats like myself
According to this manual, the Seafarer needs a 150khz transducer-an odd frequency today. No idea where you would find one.

Had to look up dictionary on Packrat Haha

Repeater/display line has 4 wires in it - probably + - and 2 for actual signal - will try seeing if i can understand what signal it is outputting and figure something out
