Raymarine ST4000 Wheel Pilot PCB source

I have an older boat (Intrepid 9 m) with a Raymarine ST4000 Wheel Pilot, which seems to not work. I could imagine that the pcb board in the control head may have been hit by lightning before I got the boat. Any suggestions on where I find the Q221 pcb. I saw several offered on E-Bay last spring, but I didn't jump fast enough. Can the Raymarine ST70 control head be used with the hardware I have?

Re: Raymarine ST4000 Wheel Pilot PCB source

The brains of the 4000 A/P are in the control head and it is NLA. If you contact Raymarine they will tell you it's NLA and try and sell you an upgrade to the X5 or whatever is their current wheel pilot. The X5 and later have a separate box with the brains. The later control head looks just like the 4000 but is just a display and place to input directions so won't work with the 4000. There may be someone out there repairing the 4000 heads as there are a lot of them and the control head is a common point of failure. IIRC the failure point is a couple of cheap components on the board that are easily replaced by someone with a little technical knowledge and experience. Sold my spare control head a while ago and haven't seen too many of them showing up on Ebay recently.

I repaired mine this year. Just in case, here you have the service manual that includes the PCB layout. I also attached a pictures with my changes in the PCB if it gives you any clue. Good luck!

Hola J.,

I know it's an old thread, sorry.. I'm also trying to repair the PCB of my spare ST4000 Head (black box with small LCD, 6 keys and external compass).. can't find the service manual, is it this model that you fixed? If so and you have the manual, would you please PM me?

Gracias

Here's a link to a PDF with the schematic.
It starts around page 9.

Re: Raymarine ST4000 Wheel Pilot PCB source

Thanx SenorM,

but that's not the one (ST4000+).. Mine, black box (Autohelm era), small one line LCD, external compass, see user manual at :
https://raymarine.app.box.com/s/nwf2...1/3273060377/1

I have the Service Manual and schematics for the ST3000 of same vintage, but the PCB is slightly different (missing a couple of memory components, the rest 90% almost identical), can probably work with that though..

Re: Raymarine ST4000 Wheel Pilot PCB source

...actually had another look at the PCB and the ST3000 circuit diagrams and worked it out, the diagrams reflect my ST4000 PCB 100%... the missing memory components only relate to the ST3000 PCB and PCB layout picture.. oh well, soldering iron and magnifier lens here they come...
