Plotter replacement questions

Looking at replacing a faulty C70 plotter.

I have a radar presumably analog. Have ST-60 tridata, windex and a Linear 1 autopilot with ST6002 control unit and SPX-10 course computer. Intend to get an AIS transceiver as well.

So what would be an incremental upgrade path I could take here. Is anything modern able to be connected to the old radar?

Hi. We went for Raymarine Axiom 9 (but I now wish we had gone 12").

Very happy with it, and it seems your other gear is RM too. We then started to upgrade the instrument cluster and AP.

I dont think you will have much luck connecting the analog radar however. (What model?)

Re: Plotter replacement questions

RW, we have gone for the the Element 9s to match the Evo 100 and Ray 50 VHF. These are all RM SeatalkNg with plug and play connections. The old C80 will be sold off and the ST60s kept separate even if the can be linked into a network.

I could have kept the C80 and added radar, but it's 15 years old and the technology even older. Time to move on.

The existing autopilot could be connected to a new RM chart plotter with Seatalk to SeatalkNg.

A lot of of the skippers I know are using their iPads with the Navonics software. Charts are great for planning routs and actually underway tracking. You can down load only the charts you need and use the system without access to WiFi.
I also have NavX and a bunch of weather Apps, like Windy.
The iPad is also a great backup system. You can take if off the boat and plan routes at home

Re: Plotter replacement questions

Raymarine makes a box that will convert the old Seatalk to SeatalkNG which is mostly compatible with NMEA2000. Then you could replace just the MFD with any brand model you want and link it to the old Raymarine stuff. Using non Raymarine gear you will need an adapter cable in addition to the convertor box so it will connect to the type of cables used by other companies.
