OpenPlotter project

Might want to add winlink email. This brings all the weather when your off shore anytime. Weatherfax is cashed and gribs on demand. Position reporting. You'll never need a laptop again 👍

One thing I would love to do is monitor my holding and water tank levels. I looked at ultrasonic sensors first, but they all seem to have some issues. The ones that will measure in close are not waterproof and the ones that are waterproof are blind to 25cm. After some research I came to the conclusion that a standard resistance type sensor would probably work best for this.

Are there any plans to incorporate some sort of ship monitoring systems such as tank levels, bilge pump actuation and the sort? Or does anyone know of a program that will accomplish this?

Thanks, Great Work!!
Yes, actually you can already monitor some of these magnitudes with the current available sensors and the rest of them when SPI sensors (analog) are implemented.

One question though, how is the 0183-signalk-parser included, I can't find it in the file system. It would be great if there was a way to update all the dependencies from the gui, as there are a lot of good things happening these days on kplex, openplotter and signal k
Yes, is amazing, all three projects are in contact and collaborating and complementing each other.

There are too much dependencies involved and it would be a lot of work to create such gui feature. Any idea to make something easy?

Principally I can connect, but the wifi is unstable. The internal access point (wlan) disappeares after a while, or isn't visible at all after a reboot.
Wlan1 is a TP-Link wifi dongle that runs fine, without extra drivers.

I tried so far:

Install a virgin image of openplotter
Update, upgrade, update openplottegit clone...)
Testing the Wlan1 dongle on a notebook - rocksolid
Trying without wlan1 and hotspot sharing, only using openplotter as AP - wifi unstable, AP disappears

So I guess it has something to to with the internal wlan0 and openplotter. As the AP often is not visible directly after rebooting, it shouldn't be a powersave issue.

Any suggestions?

best regards,

Martin

It sound to me as a powering issue because once I saw something similar.

Are you tried to disconnect everything and connect just the built-in wifi to the marina wifi as client? works normal? and then as a AP?

That has been proposed before and it would be great but I do not have more time for that . If someone could make some work on it I could try to implement it.

I had similar problem with rpi3 and used additional edimax tongle to try. External tongle worked but internal not. It may have to do with the internal knows only wlan standard n and no more a,b or g

Re: OpenPlotter project

Just tried to update rpi3 to op 0.8.0 as suggested but receive error

pi@openplotter:~/.config $ sudo pip install pyudev gammu python-gammu
Downloading/unpacking pyudev
Downloading pyudev-0.19.0.tar.gz (96kB): 96kB downloaded
Running setup.py (path:/tmp/pip-build-pN6Jff/pyudev/setup.py) egg_info for package pyudev

Downloading/unpacking gammu
Could not find any downloads that satisfy the requirement gammu
Cleaning up...
No distributions at all found for gammu
Storing debug log for failure in /root/.pip/pip.log
pi@openplotter:~/.config $

any suggestions where I can find gammu ?

Thats possible, can one force the internal WLAN to a/b/g mode without n?

I have a problem installing 0.8, because gammu/pyudev doesn#t install (see below). Internet connection is ok.
Any suggestions?

dont think n is backwards compatible.
Way I use rpi3 now is edimax to connect to marina or my huawai hub and internal wlan only for NMEA distribution and NAT
