Mirroring Pc to Android tablet

So I have been using opencpn on my laptop and connecting the laptop to a Navcomp screen in my cockpit. Unfortunatly the cockpit screen has swallowed the anchor so I'm looking for a way to mirror my laptop onto my tablet without a wifi network. This is primarily so I can use the sat images on opencpn.

Can anyone recomend a way to do this easily? I have previously tried opencpn android but find it too clunky, however if there is no easy way to mirror opencpn from the laptop I will attempt to upload the sat images to the tablet.

Re: Mirroring Pc to Android tablet

Well, the Laptop has a "share" function (OS based) but I don't think it will work with the Tablet, unless it too is Windows based (assuming your Laptop is WinOS).

Bluetooth is for file transfer so that might work if the Laptop is receiving images. Then you can transfer to Tablet. But that might be cumbersome.

Maybe hard wire. Wonder if a HDMI to USB(x) adapter would work. Just guessing. HDMI on the Laptop and the adapter on the Tablet. Treat the Tablet like it is a second monitor.

Last would be a small monitor that can be connected directly to the Laptop. Run the Laptop in 2 Monitor mode and feed the primary to the smaller monitor.

How long ago did you try Android OpenCPN and, importantly, was it the registered/paid version by Dave Register? (If not, you haven't tried an up-to-date Android OpenCPN!)

I don't find it "clunky" at all.

I have TONS of satellite images I use in my Android OpenCPN.

Re: Mirroring Pc to Android tablet

Tbf Ive not used android opencpn for a couple of years (that was the dave register version) so will give it another shot.

I went for an interweb wander last night amd discovered All In One Offline Maps for android. It looks like it could be very useful used in conjunction with navionics (its not a charting software as such so deoent show depth)

Re: Mirroring Pc to Android tablet

without a wifi network ? why ?

I guess you are running windows on your laptop. You can use RDP (remote desktop protocol) to remotely access your laptop from your tablet. But you need a network. It doesn't have to be a wireless network. But then what wired network ports you have on your tablet ?
I guess you have some sort of USB port ? Maybe you can run TCP/IP protocol over USB (since it's a serial bus)

Try this link and see if it can help

An other option is using VNC, but again you need a network.

My question too, when I first read it. I suspect the OP means he doesn't have a WiFi network available?

If the laptop is Windows you can probably use the laptop as the WiFi network host. Windows calls it an Ad Hoc network.

Guide to creating an Ad hoc network using Windows settings

Alternatively, if you are comfortable with command line:

Code:
netsh wlan show drivers
Look through the results for:

Quote:
Hosted network supported : Yes
If you have a "yes" to hosted network then:

Code:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=mynetname key=mypwd
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
Either way results in a WiFi network to which you should be able to connect your tablet, then use RDP/VNC or some other package to access the laptop from the tablet.

Re: Mirroring Pc to Android tablet

If the laptop doesn't support "hosted network" then configure the Android device as the hotspot and connect the laptop to it.

Then use the MS RDP Android client. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...id&hl=en&gl=US )
or VNC:
Run VNC viewer on the Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...id&hl=en&gl=US and TightVNC server on the laptop https://www.tightvnc.com/.
Those are my preferred applications, but there are several others available for each end that will do a similar job.
