maretron wind indicator

Does anyone have any experience using the maretron WSO200 electronic wind gauge? It would be nice to eliminate my mechanical anemometer which requires annual lubrication at the masthead.

the maretron unit is ultrasonic but I have not seen any mention of simple wind display

Re: maretron wind indicator

From what I’ve seen they only last a couple years.

I saw one that filled up with water.

It’s nmea 2000. So it will feed any newer mfd. or general screen like a Garmin gmi20 or raymarine i70

Re: maretron wind indicator

They aren’t sold anymore after lots of problems with them filling up with water.

Before Maretron was sold, I had contact with the owner and he sent me a new version that would have the problem fixed and except for the humidity sensor, it still works today.

It’s data is like mechanical wind sensors so any nmea2000 display will work with it.

Another problem is the hookup method, which requires you to run the nmea2000 backbone all the way up the mast. They have a special in-line terminator to eliminate the T connector iirc.

I much prefer the wired B&G sensor which uses NMEA0183 down the mast to a converter inside the boat that is on the NMEA2000 backbone.

If you are looking for a wind sensor with no moving parts have a look at LCJ Capteurs

Accurate and reliable lots of output options. Been using it on my boat since 2015.
