Thanks.

If the following fails we get the switch.

As we've got the RJ45 crimper we can make a short crossover cable. Can you advice by any chance which wires need to be swapped if RX and TX are to be swapped over?

Re: Hardware connection Navico to OpenCPN NMEA 2000/0183

This is the wiring pin lay-out for NAVICO/SIMRAD/Lowrance rbroadband 3G radar BR24, not sure it is the same for 4G.
I found that the more network cables came between radar and screen, the more complicated it became. Even some routers/switches do not transmit all wires to other exits. If you have a network cable check instrument you can see instantly where it goes wrong or when it is correct. But the final connector is very important: in doubt, cut it of and crimp (or self crimp) a new one.

Thanks.

All we will add is one connector and 30cm of Ethernet cable configured as crossover.
We only need one usable cable between the radome and the PC.

We do not use a chart plotter, only OpenCPN.

So, check the ethernet, try a switch/router in between. Can you ping the radar?
Check the power to the radar, current 0.2 A in standby?
Or your radar is broken, I have seen this before. Is the radar as brand new as the cable? Try a new radar, Halo+ is a good choice.
More I cannot do for you.

Thanks, yes the radar is as new as the cable. Could not check it before buying.
Still as it uses 0.2A I have hopes it's not broken & it's a configuration issue.
Will see, tomorrow we will crimp a crossover cable. Just not sure yet which wires need to be crossed to swap TX and RX.

I'd just buy a crossover cable from a PC shop, they are pretty common as old routers used to need them.

RJ45 is a real pain in the arse to crimp if you haven't done it before

I did that last night (after my post), I was just not sure if all crossover cables are the same.
But, looks like they are & we will make one today.

Thank you Hakan & all others, we will get this sorted eventually :-)

Re: Hardware connection Navico to OpenCPN NMEA 2000/0183

IT IS WORKING!! HORRAY!!

What made the difference?

For one part the crossover cable, and for the other, that the THICK black cable is the negative pole.
I was fooled by the attached drawing out of the B&G manual. There it appears that the thin wire is negative.
The shield wire is drawn bigger.
But, it turns out that this thin black wire is shield.

My boyfriend said it's odd that the negative would be thinner than the red positive.
We swapped it and, all is good.

So so happy!!!! Click image for larger version
