B&G Radar Cable?

Most B&G radar cables are 20 meters long. Can they be shortened, cut to length and silver soldered back together. Or is there a different way to do this?

It’s a rj45 connector. Just cut off and add new one.

I just did this last month. The installer had to cut off the RJ45 connector to run the cable down the mast. When he reinstalled the connector, he got it wrong. So, I went to home depot, bought a crimper (a good one) and watched a few youtube videos. It still took me about a half hour to get it right. There are 8 strands of different colors that have to be threaded simultaneously through the holes in the connector in the correct order...easier said than done. There are also different crimpers for different types of connectors, so make sure you get the right one. Youtube is your friend.

If you are buying RJ45 plugs, there are lots of different variations and a wide range of qualities. Mouser has one brand where the cable jacket is stripped back a little more than normal so that when they are inserted into the plug, the individual wires will stick out the front. It’s much easier to verify that they’re in the right positions. Then crimp normally and trim off the excess.

Just did a couple of these myself. Garmin makes a very nice connector that, if not waterproof, looks very water resistant.
