Apple Cellular experience

The Apple Cellular solution seems to be the choice for the circum navigator.
Any opinions or experiences out there?

Re: Apple Cellular experience

Most of the time, you are going to be out of cellular range, and in satellite phone only areas....

To the best of my knowledge, Apple do not make satellite capable devices...

On the other hand, several of the satellite phones I have used over the years have all defaulted to cellular networks where available to keep costs down

Re: Apple Cellular experience

Need to clarify my "stupid" question

When traveling to several countries - i.e. making several landfall -
it's nice to have a solution like Apple Cellular when traveling in the country.
Apple Cellular makes it possible to choose a local operator, and it's for iPad only.

Have anyone tried the solution?

What do you mean by "Apple Cellular"?

Apple makes the iPhone but they don't provide service. You need to buy an unlocked phone - doesn't matter if it's a flip phone or a smartphone by any given manufacturer but having a smartphone is nice because you can view weather and for all the other reasons smartphones are nice.

Then you need to get the correct SIM card to work on the local network and put it in the phone. You can get these just about anywhere and the costs goes from about $10 all the way up to hundreds depending on how you are going to use the network.

Are you sure you are not talking about GOOGLE global cellular and data option (Project FI)? I am familiar with Google global option but I have not heard about a similar option by Apple.

Re: Apple Cellular experience

I think the OP is talking about the Apple Sim cards that come with 4G capable iPads that are not tied to a specific carrier and allow you to swap carriers without swapping out sims. You do still need to pick which carrier/s you use but it does partially fix the need to get a local sim upon arrival in a new country.

Re: Apple Cellular experience

For me, buying international sims online in advance and refilling them at bitrefill.com from a Bitcoin wallet works best. An international problem solved with a global currency :-)
