I try to not reply if I don't know what I'm talking about. Of course, there are those that are sure I don't know what I'm talking about when I do reply.

- My response will elicit a drawn-out argument(still working on avoiding this)
- I read a thread title that is interesting, but the course of discussion is less so.
- I start reading the last few posts of a thread, then realize I'll have to go back & read the other 100 pages in order not to repeat what has already been said.
- I read a thread with an interesting title, only to realize that the OP is following a hidden agenda of selling something or someone ...

What these previous contributors said.

Although I've contributed over 19,000 posts, I'm certain that I must have read several HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS over the past 9+ years. There was a time when I read every single post on this Forum.

To me, a more interesting question is why there are so many more (non-member) viewers than members, online at any given time.

Perhaps occupation? Bad experience with a random weirdo? They are out there.

I'm here to learn and help others if I have experience with a topic. BTW LEOs etc don't need to hang out. Your privacy left with the Patriot Act if you are in the US. (and no I don't argue politics that is a simple fact.)

I'm a real person. At least one member here has met me. That I'm fine with but I choose to keep my details to myself and those I choose to share it with. It's a weird world out there.

Heck, I wondered who got my share of handsome. Now I know. That means I must have gotten your share of intelligence and wisdom.

Re: Why?

I've been lurking for a few years now. I'm new enough to sailing to not be an authority on any aspect of it. I'm not a cruiser because I'm still earning the money so that my wife and I can become cruisers. We didn't choose the $500 a month in a small boat approach so many on here will never consider us to be the right kind of cruisers. And I clearly disagree with the majority here when the topics cover social issues or personal defense.

I also lurk on other forums where the other participants outlook on life is much closer to mine. I don't even post to my wall on FaceBook and the people who see that are either family or friends.

I even thought about deleting this without posting.

"cheers"

I don't dispute that, but not wanting to post a picture when no one has any other details about you is being unnecessarily paranoid. Seeing your picture does not allow the weirdos to manifest in your house.

Now if you're just too ugly or too beautiful for the world to handle, that's more believable.

You are entitled to your opinion and I can agree to disagree. You can identify a lot from a photo. Say I post a picture of a documented boat? A quick search you now have my name and address assuming it is how I registered it which I personally did not. If you ever find yourself in my neck of the woods I can explain it much clearer. Some people don't want to be found. SC

Re: Why?

The OP was asking to see who she is talking to, not what boat they are registered to. I don't think your face is registered, unless you are a sex offender, so as I have said, you shouldn't have to hide from the men in the black suits just cause you have a picture posted. Go ahead and put your tinfoil hat back on now.

BTW, I do not agree to disagree with you.

Nothing I can/ am willing to say will offer much. The men in black and tin foil hats are hardly a concern. I would happily meet OP for a beer otherwise the mental image with a tin hat will have to do. SC

Feels good to be that way. I'll post just about anything except financial/medical info. Dani and I are unapologetic-ally who we are. If someone wants to come harass me for that, they're more than welcome to.
