Who Makes a Living on the Water ?

I spend most of my time on the water as i am a commercial fisherman. Any of my free time I'm on my sailboat doing something. Working on the water has given me allot of off shore experience that will come in handy when i make the break and go cruising for a while.
Just wondering how many of you guys work and play on the water?
P.S This could be previous or present.

Re: Who Makes A Living On The Water?

Been a charter boat captain for 26 years. Going to look at a trawler on Friday. Working, playing, and living aboard.........does it get any better than that?

I too am a commercial fisherman and now livin on my first sailboat ( she will be mine after she's paid off). Fishing gave me the chance to fall in love with the sea that surfing couldn't. Now with any luck I plan to spend every second on the water I can. Till I run out of rum anyway....

Chief Mate on a big passenger carrying sail boat. Seasonal work. Usually only work part of a season because of the long hard hours. Don't really "Make a Living" mostly just survive.

I know it's not making my living ON the sea but for the past 2 summers I've been a beach attendant - paid to hang around the beach and watch the sea. . . little wonder I fell in love and decided to live on it!

in an ideal world I'd make a living from freelance photography (long way off yet). . . anyone else out there do that while cruising?
