I dunno your locale, but getting boots on the ground and simply wandering around boatyards etc is time well spent. and if you are really into boats endlessly fascinating . Not only for the boats you will see (in and out of budget! as well as suitable and not) but also for the people you can meet. And throw in that you likely to stumble accross all manner of boats in varying condition and many with work ongoing (never ending?!) that don't make it onto the Internet - some of which will also be for sale .

Getting used to looking at boats and guesstimating (or Googling up!) the cost of fixes and improvements will come in handy when it's your time to write the cheques. Mostly about avoiding (as much as poss) the need to write the cheques by not buying the bills in the first place! IMO one of the scariest things to do with a boat is to add the bills up! (individually many things are not so bad, in cash and time - but collectively is another thing entirely), doing the excercise on someone elses boat allows you to walk away for free ........
