As Eric Hiscock got older his boats got bigger ending up with Wanderer V, a forty-nine footer. That was his home when he died in 1986. He was 78 years old.

With the number of boats I see on the market I'm surprised that so many people find they have to search so long to find the right boat. My schedule is such that I can't get to the coast too often but I see I will have to make more of an effort soon.

your partly right and wrong. the 49' was wanderer IV which he sailed for two years before declaring it way to big for safe and comfortable handling. he then downsided to a 30's wooden boat called wanderer V which he lived on in kiwi country.
