No need to boggle , the real value would be nothing like that stated , the police always exaggerate the value to make the offence look as serious as possible , their " value " is usually based on the " street " price when sold in small quantities which will be about 100 times the true value of the cargo to the crew . Still a very risky business.

I don't know why they just don't load boats full of drugs and set the Garmin autopilot. You could have a second boat following along so if anything happened to the boat you could issue a remote change of course or answer the vhf or whatever or simply bail. If the cops intercept the boat... well there's no drugs on OUR boat.

Until you run out of fuel then it is just sad...

I always wondered what avenue to pursue with drugs. The dog idea is a good one.
Years ago and probably still today drug runners would tow a torpedo style container about 15 to 20 feet below the surface. SEA shows up they cut the tow line, it sinks, they log the coordinates and pick it up later.

Saw that on TV, same show said that divers would attach blisters of drugs on Commercial shipping, ships never knew it was there.
I don't know how it could be attached though, maybe electromagnetic?

Years ago living in Richmond Hill Ga., it seems almost every week they would bust drug runners on I-95. Almost always it was four young men in a pimped out Cadillac with New Jersey plates.

I figured the real mass quantities were being transported by Ma and Pa kettle in their Winnebago.

Top of the mast can host a small quantity, as much as a lead keel can (mine has 3201lt - 80gallons of fuel)....

Containers are imo their preferred way to, only 1-2% is casually X-rayed

OK.... not sure I want to know what the extra ton of displacement came from...

Some of the posters make a good point. If you take those nice folks you recently met out for a sail you are assuming some risk. In the unlikely event you are boarded and drugs found not only could you be criminally liable as the owner but current asset forfeiture laws might make your boat vulnerable to seizure. Sad but true reality.

Re: One way not to make a living while cruising

The dogs might be a good idea, if one could be sure that it wouldn't backfire. I did find a hypodermic syringe tucked way back in a crevice between the liner and hull, inside a cabinet. Also had to permanently 86 a guest over wacky weed one time.

Note: The DEA once seized the RV Atlantis and the Alvin submarine over a pipe and some residue found in a crew bunk. They kept it for a few months before enough political pressure came down on it to "Let Alvin Go!" These guys have no sense of proportion.

Brazilian Air Force has a radar coverage of Amazonia and legal permission to shoot down small airplanes that do not comply to land at their command...
Amazonia had over 2000 "uncharted" small landing tracks.
