Gori prop failure

Hi folks
Interesting GORI propeller failure that might send shivers up the spine of fellow gory 2 blade folding prop owners
Fitted to my Yanmar 3jh2 engine and SD 31 saildrive for 5 years and 1500 hours use . Removed and serviced annually . Prop in “as new” condition, with zero to negligible play in any of the moving parts.

Docking with a strong tailwind , 2,500 rpm in reverse for braking, as we have countless times before . Prop flies off with a bang .
Retrieved from the marina seabed, the prop is undamaged, the saildrive shaft still intact , with the hub of the gori still attached . So when I look at my prop, I’m looking at an empty hub
The rubber dampener it seems is only “captive” in forward trust . In reverse, the only thing holding your gori prop on to your shaft, is the rubber adhesion to the prop body . Our prop is in very good condition but is now , worthless for 2 reasons
1– the process of Re- vulcanising the rubber hub requires a specialist service which is both difficult to find and would not be guaranteed by gori in any case
2– That this can happen anytime to any GORI propeller in full reverse thrust, makes these props too unreliable for me to even contemplate using one again .
Asking around even locally , this is not a rare occurrence
So each time you gori owners need to slow your boat down in a hurry , cross your fingers the rubber adhesion doesn’t let go and your prop walk has a whole new meaning
I have just purchased a Kiwi-prop , because whatever their relative detractions are , at least I know it won’t spin itself off when the rubber glue lets go

Please keep us updated re the kiwi prop, an option I am considering.

Is this the same issue you reported in this other thread?

Yes, Jamme,

It's identical.

Glueinhair - do you know that duplicate threads are prohibited under Forum rules...?

Re: Gori prop failure

Funny, about 7 years ago, I replaced a Gori 2-blade which was original to the 1992 boat. Boat had been in charter for its first 10 years. Only reason I replaced it was bc I wanted the newer style which has a collar zinc on the prop hub
