Just like with reefing, if I have to ask the question (of myself) then I already know the answer. I usually delete that post and start again.
Mike--good one.

To REDHEAD

You hit the nail right on the head.
Ignore the egodriven fools and concentrate on the info.

To ALL
I joined in 2009 and was not impressed enough to put up with the BS then and stayed away for a long time. NOT much has changed except that I am less sensitive to the BSers.

To those who contribute good info with courtesy.........Thankyou.........you are the people who make this forum work.

BIG difference, at least to me.
My mistake...I could have sworn that he said "despite the silly handles most people hide behind here," alluding to the silly handles, in his opinion, most people hide behind here. Qualifying it with "we are still real people" does not in any way, to me, change the fact that, in his opinion, using a silly handle is an act of hiding.

I stand corrected...

I kinda reverse that. If I was in a bar having a beer with these folks, would this bother me? And the answer is almost always no. Because I'd know that (insert name here) is a salty, crusty opinionated old guy that is kinda blustery - but has tons of experience. Wouldn't bother me a bit. I'd know that FastBttms really does know his stuff, and he gets a bit miffed when folks that haven't cleaned thousands of boats tell him he's wrong. And we'd all get along, or toss the rare a-hole out. And we'd agree to disagree about heads, anchors, etc.. But it'd be a pretty animated conversation.

Problem is the medium of message boards. Too easy to read something into a post that's not there. Too hard to get personality read out of it. If we were at a bar that wouldn't happen.

CF is an amazingly civil place. It's civil to the point of being dry. Sheesh, a few more 'entertaining' members would make it more entertaining. Oh, yea, I can find em on SN. And y'all know what SA is like.

Is this an example of hitting the "Submit" button a little too fast, or are you calling me, a person you know absolutely nothing about, a "silly person"?

To Morveen55

Yours is PRECISELY the type of post that wrecks a thread. You twist things and get agressive

Sillly handles does not equate to silly person.

Well I've only been here 5 minutes but I recon there is a pretty good balance... you all seem very nice to me, I plan on sticking around, can't wait to get a boat and start asking some real dumb questions....

Re: Changes to the forum

OK folks - enough. Thread closed. Read back and you can see some prime examples of the reasons threads run off the rails.

Off topics posts and comments lobbed are almost always the culprit. They are best kept to private messages.

Once more...
  • Stay on topic
  • Be polite-ish
  • Use the report post button if you have a concern
  • Don't rise to the bait offered by another member - just report the problem.

The site team has taken note of the initial concern voiced here and is mulling over some strategies to address this. In the meantime try to be a part of the solution - not the problem....
