Advice Requested: Best October route New York to Mediterranean

I am assisting a 42 foot Peterson across the Atlantic. Down the Erie Canal and then on to Italy. Departure Michigan early September. Then on and across. Meaning that the Atlantic crossing would begin out of New York late September. Any advice on best route that time of year? Any advice (other than don't do it) appreciated. I can advise a southerly route, as far south as needed before a crossing. Or a 39th parallel to the Azores. But I am reticent to try the (normal) northern route at that time of year. Time en route is not an issue. As long as it is en route. Many thanks.

Jimmy Cornell indicates November is OK for a leg to Bermuda. Recommendations for legs on to the Azores or Gibraltar are May-June and May-July respectively.

If you want to go off season my guess is that you would face headwinds much of the way or no winds or storms.

That time of year he should get SW to W winds as the Azores high should have shrunk down.. past the Azores they are predominatly N with long (7 days) periods of SW.
