Advice requested. North America to the Mediterranean in October

I am assisting a 42 foot Peterson across the Atlantic. Down the Erie Canal and then on to Italy. Departure Michigan early September. Then on and across. Meaning that the Atlantic crossing would begin out of New York late September. Any advice on best route that time of year? Any advice (other than don't do it) appreciated. I can advise a southerly route, as far south as needed before a crossing. Or a 39th parallel to the Azores. But I am reticent to try the (normal) northern route at that time of year. Time en route is not an issue. As long as it is en route. Many thanks.

I would run to Horta/Terceira from New York, currents in your favour after a coupla 3 days then jump across to St Vincent, Portugal (7 days) which puts you 48hrs from Gibraltar if the winds good, or use the iron spinnaker and fill up on cheap fuel in Gib. If the winds from the East when you get to Trafalgar duck into Barbate to wait for the W'lies.
From there its 5 days to the Balearic's then 2.5 days to Sardinia.. after that it depends whether you want E or W Italy.
