7.4 quake oaxaca affecting many ports

https://abc7.com/powerful-earthquake...N8sTYMI0KBquzE

https://www.aa.com.tr/en/americas/ma...mexico/1887353

those in puerto econdido , huatulco, chiapas, salina cruz all the way into guatemala are affected. the mexican army has been deployed into area for assistance. early reports say no damages but the pictures show demolition of buildings..... i donot know how the ports involved fared. there is an expected 113 cm rise in water level in the area.
if you are in this area please be safe and please report in, with pix and a report of conditions.
thankyou

Zee
A question. The 113 cm rise in sea level, that much subsidence? Or quake agitation, one time wave?

See, yesterday when it hit the news the caption was devastating 7.? Quake leaves path of destruction. Then it showed a building for almost 3 minutes that just had some cement facade slough off. All the comments on YouTube were like... “that is what you call devastation.”

Now I will have to google it again and see what happened. Glad u r safe.

was spozedly a tsunami thing but... have heard nothing on that issue...
there were collapsed buildings in some pueblos...so far 5 counted dead.
nyt who i have not trusted since 1971 says this...and adds another dead to list of now 6.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/23/w...arthquake.html

it will take time to learn the whole issue as rural areas are just that--makes my uncles old apple farm look like a city...

Not sure if related, but there was a 5.8 earthquake yesterday near Lone Pine, CA.

We felt it here near the Bay Area.

Re: 7.4 quake oaxaca affecting many ports

i started this thread because there are cruisers in huatulco (puerto angel and nearby coves), chiapas, escondido (south) and anchored in the area. i have yet to hear anything of or from these sailors regarding the conditions or experiences. .

Re: 7.4 quake oaxaca affecting many ports

Try not to worry, zeehag. The tsunami warning was cancelled shortly after having been announced. It may be you're not hearing anything because not very much happened. The only time we were in an earthquake at anchor, other than the shock wave, not much happened, though the dust rose from the town nearby.

Of course, it is the tsunamis than can do terrible damage, but fwiw, I think Mexico escaped on that, or we'd have heard. All the media would have been all over a tsunami at Puerto Escondido, had there been one.

Re: 7.4 quake oaxaca affecting many ports

ii figgered tsunami was cancelled as they usually end up big nothings.. but the earthquake itself and the damages done therefrom are an issue.
i am hooked into the mexico emergency notifications system which is usually good, but has fallen on its face on this one. there have been no reports from anyone yet..i am hoping all are ok. also i hope no more are dead..
was a bigun. and only 5 mi beneath surface of ocean.
