Sailing in Minnesota

Hello all,

My wife and I are interested in getting an older Gemini catamarn to sail on the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers in Minnesota. We don't see a lot of sailboats around here and haven't seen any cruising catamarans. If anybody is familiar with the area, do you think maybe the Gemini would be too big for these rivers??

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Geminiah.

I wouldn’t think a Gemini catamarn would be too large to sail on the upper Mississippi. Lake Pepin & etc.

Thanks for the response!

What size slip would you need for a Gemini if it's 32x14? Would 16 feet be wide enough?

Re: Sailing in Minnesota

welcome to MN! I sail Mille Lacs & Superior. Have sailed Lake Pepin a few times, along with Minnetonka. Lake Pepin would be just fine for your cat. Lots of speedboat traffic & barges...but a nice place to spend some time on the water. Never been on the St Croix, but when I drive that way I don't see many sailboats. Perhaps the width & current are not favorable? Why not try Mille Lacs? 18 miles wide & 27 miles long - lots of good sailing weather & varied conditions. PM me for more info.
