Hello sailors,
My question is around putting a
boat into
charter in
New Zealand. I am wondering once I have bought a
boat, how onerous and costly is it to be in a position to rent it out to someone myself. Yacht will be around a 40 footer. I am starting to investigate this and will likely get guidance from a
broker but it would be great to get
advice from the forum (as the
advice I get here is normally better and more entertaining!). I figure I need:
A
survey to be completed (for
commercial purposes?)
Insurance
Agreement for rental
The skippers who rent the vessel will need a
certification (i.e. Day
Skipper as a minimum)
Safety gear required (in service)
All
charts, checklists and briefs
I suspect I will need to create a 'business' to run this venture. If I did try to
DIY it (just to rent it out for a few weeks in one year, what would be the cost and minimum cost as well? Any thoughts would be appreciated. And I do know the simple answer is to give it to a
charter company but for this question I would really like to discuss
DIY and NOT handing over to a charter company. Thanks in advance
