Re: Liability only insurance no survey required

For international, I was hearing roughly $800/yr survey required. Was a thread awhile back. Only one company offers and they don't care the rate is very high and outside of US their liability exposure would be relatively low. Don't know if wreck removal is even covered.

Liability only insurance no survey required

Our liability also covers for uninsured boaters, which could get expensive.
I was quoted over $8,000 per year for full coverage or $126 per year for liability.

Progressive didn't require a survey for my 37year old boat.

I believe uninsured boater only covers personal injury cover I believe. Won't pay for any physical damage.

I think that depends on the insurer, but I believe you are correct when it comes to our policy with Geico

I think you may have missed the mark here. Most boats which sink, do so at their own dock. The cleanup costs can be substantial. The insurance company certainly cares whether they receive the bill of not. And for that matter, the likelihood of the boat sinking at its dock is not unrelated to the condition of the boat either.

My Progressive policy covers property damage, including fuel spill.

its sounding more and more that something will need to change. or Marinas will be a very exclusive club for some !

Re: Liability only insurance no survey required

I recommend you call Oversea Insurance Agency Inc., 1724 Scott Ave, San Diego, Ca. 619-222-1111. Www.overseainsurance.com. They cover my 1971 Irwin 45 sloop, for Liability only, without survey. I am in Costa Rica so my premium may be higher than if homeported in the US. They were the only Insurance Agency I could find who would sell Liability only coverage. The Underwriter is Markel. Good luck

Thanks Bob. What is your premium? It's probably basically all the same as there are no real tables to work of for this risk. Probably only the companies with lawyers everywhere would consider it.

You can get liability coverage including oil spill that covers out to 75 miles in the USA for 100 dollars each year with Progressive, no surveys required.

Re: Liability only insurance no survey required

Progressive is now highly selective of what they write for example no boats in FL over 30' and no salvage cover on any of there liability policies.

Unfortunately, I don't see any incentive for marinas to change.

Before the proliferation of Marinas, boats anchored and took the tender ashore, minimal risk and liability.

Now weekend wariers fill the crowded marinas, plan to a schedule rather than conditions and bang into each other a bit more often

Your liability insurance, supplements their insurance

Re: Liability only insurance no survey required

We just went through Jackline. Most other carriers would not provide coverage for liveaboards and the boat being over 50 years old.
