EVA foam decking

I was recommended EVA Foam for a grippy decking material in place of Kiwi Grip.

I'm worried about it getting too hot in the sun, some types get very hot.

Is it suitable outside in place of Kiwi Grip.

Re: EVA foam decking

The stuff I have seen is pretty thick and heavy nearly a kilo per square metre. What's wrong with patching up with Kiwi Grip?

Re: EVA foam decking

We're having this same debate for our new build. EVA foam's padding is so nice under foot, but it's durability is making us think otherwise.

We had both on our aluminum boat - which is typically way hotter of a surface temperature to fiberglass construction - both in a whitish color. The EVA foam was cooler to walk on than the Kiwi grip. But that's probably due to the insulating properties keeping us off the metal.

Kiwi-grip is more durable. Both are difficult to keep clean.

4l of kiwi-grip covers 2sqm and weights about 2kg.... or about 1kg per sqm

Re: EVA foam decking

Chlorinated rubber swimming pool paint with Hempel anti-slip pearls. About 10sqm/kg.
Nice to walk on and kneel on. Easy to clean. Easy to patch (one pack) dries in 30mins. Cheap.

Re: EVA foam decking

Thanks for your comments. The kiwi grip on my boat has been good, I'm not a fan of the look, that's all and someone mentioned EVA.

I have a CNC router so I could buy it as a blank and cut my own patterns in it. I believe you can buy it in a thinner section...3mm or 1/8in.

The weight of the pool paint sounds inviting, I'll take a look.

Re: EVA foam decking

Don't know what look you are going for but they are producing a new cork marine deck covering in Portugal. I can find out more if you are interested.
