Ok Alan.

With all due respect Alan. I did "not" list both types of piracy in my original thread.

So forgive my little "oh really?" comment. I am just trying to prove another point. Along side other points. That has been mentioned time and time again. With weblinks to prove it, on commercial and private ship attacks. Ok?

Ok,so no,I have never met any pirates and come to think of it,I doubt if even 3% of all you cruisers on the forum ever have also.I load interstate truck drivers every day who are knawing their faces of with the amphetamine's in their system. And I'd say if ya pinned that on a map of OZ,it would be way more scary then pirates V's private yachties on the high seas.

If piracy towards private yachts was such a "Common" happening there would be an uproar on all the sailing sites.Threads like this would be full of sailors telling us THEIR stories and not a bunch of hand me down tales, some of which are repeated constantly like as if piracy is happening to yachties every single day.I would also say the subject gets flogged to death from time to time.Surely I'm not the only person who thinks that way.Well folks, thats my rant for the day.Mudnut.

Exactly. Southern Philippines is a hotbed. Also when you read about "attacks" on fishing vessels you sometimes have to try and read between the lines. is there a religious implication? Is it a financial gain piracy? Or are they simply disputing fishing grounds?

When reading the maritime piracy reports, one must really only consider family/pleasure cruising craft piracy to get a more accurate picture of any risk.

Cat Man Do - "Saw and endless supply of these fishing structures in the water but I'm sure the fishermen who own it don't think it's crap though"

You bet - those fish pens are all over the place.

Of course I was assured that it was original and not pirated, and for $8 for 12 new release DVD's surely they must have been telling the truth.

Should see the genuine Louisse Vuitton watch I got for $3, it still work's.

Hell yeah. It's real common. They all hang out at Chandleries and boat yards. Seafox had one take him for $6K and a new engine and the other poster in Oz that had been Pirated for $2K to look at his. Then there are the Pirates that manufacture and then put a special word on the Product. "Marine". Those Pirates make you feel like ya been run through by the cold steel. :-)
