Fowl Weather Gear for Tall People

Just got back from a drenching passage and I have another one coming up in April at high latitudes. One problem is that I am 2m tall and could not/still cannot find any fowl weather gear that fits. Playing the worlds smallest violin but big and tall sections in stores are really just... big with tall being non-existent; for years all my clothes have been bought online or bespoke or extremely ill fitting XXL draping over me like a bed sheet.

Anyone know of any fowl weather gear makers that have a "T" in their sizes?

Try Gill or Henri Lloyd. Or, have them made for you; it will be a challenge to your tailor
to get them really water proof. Another option is to buy too big, and have the tailor fit them to you. It won't be quite as good as made from scratch for you, but only having the alteration done might save you a bit on it

Fwiw, don't count on them staying really waterproof more than five years. Of course, discuss the whole issue with the tailor. You may find a better approach. For me, I don't mind if the jacket is a little too large, but I like the overalls to fit well.

Another approach is to look at camping gear.
Some of their top-end rain clothing might suit your needs.

I`m over 2 metres and Musto HPX offshore fitted well for me. Have also had BR1 and worn MPX.
Henri Lloyd was my first set and that fitted well also.

Cabela's/Bass Pro offer good quality gore Tex rain gear for fishing. They offer tall sizes. The main difference I have found is that sailing specific jackets have taller collars and more reflective stuff on them. Otherwise, if you can live with the big fish logo you might try this brand.

I sympathize since I'm 198 cm myself with a 37" shirt sleeve and inseam.
I use Gill who make XLT size which works well and is the same price as XL.
Henri Lloyd used to make to measure - I don't know about now?

Good luck,

Niall.

6'1" Henri Lloyds. Wouldn't buy any other brand except.... when bringing my boat up solo I broke my hand in port. Could not get my cast through my jacket sleeve. Newbie crewmate got to wear my Henri lloys as his foulies were pitiful. I went to walmart and bought a cheap PVC set which did fit over my my cast. Doesn't breathe, not super comfy nut very dry

I've spent a lot of money on goretex foulies but still have a wet butt. now I wear them to the yacht club for drinks, but have pvc foulies for those wet passages where you can't dry out for days

In really bad weather I kept on my wet suit. Being wet inside a waterproof jacket is worse than a wet suit, and sweat will do that very quickly..

have been wondering about this for the longest time.

could you give some pro/cons on the wetsuit experience, the best-use conditions?

thanks

Re: Fowl Weather Gear for Tall People

I once sailed with a guy who wore a scuba dry suit when it was raining heavily.
Kept him very dry and he said it wasn’t too uncomfortable.
It did take him forever to put on and off and to do a pee.

This post made me smile. English is a funny language. We all knew exactly what you meant. Linguists call this sort of mis-hearing mistake an "egg corn." For a hilarious collection of egg corns see
