Sailing on the East coast

Brand new member here. First post and first time on the forum.

I am buying a Beneteau First 51 that is currently in Cape cod and I need to sail her to Texas. I've never sail the east coast so I'm hoping I can get a few pointers. Mostly I'm concerned about the weather/sailing conditions that are typical this time of year for the east coast between MA and GA.

I do not consider myself to be a very experienced sailor, but I will have other sailors on board that are experienced and will be making the trip with me. One has some experience on the east coast.

My plan, at least in its formative stage, is to leave Cape Cod within the next two to three weeks and sail to the Chesapeake to hopefully give me a little more good weather. Change crews.m there then head down to Savannah. I have family there and can leave her there till Christmas. At which time I'll sail to Houston.

The ICW is an option but mast height is an issue in many parts. 74 feet I believe.

The draft is also 5'11".

I've never sailed this area before, so any pointers, concerns, and wisdom are helpful.

If there is some pertinent information that I have left out don't hesitate to ask.
