That works

For me its always been points, but thats cos what I have been used to for over 30 years at sea.
I still use the word "whereaway" when someone on the bridge says they have spotted something. Usually answered with silence at night, or a blank stare during the day.
On the
sail boat, I'd just ask whoever had spotted some thing to wave their arm about in the general direction.
