shipofools sorry I don't know of such software for the Mac. I sent it to one MAC user who said he was going to try it in some windows simulator but he never got back to me to say whether it worked or not.

jannw: Thanks for feedback. Maybe some day I will look into the Google maps.

Oops, if that was me, I apologize and it works just fine inside a Windows virtual machine running on a Mac.

I have deleted the attachment for the program because it was quite out dated. Please send me a private message with your email address and I'll send you the latest version with instructions.

Felipe,

Yes I removed it because it was out of date. I'd rather send it to someone directly so that if I find errors, I can notify everyone who has it.

I have sent it to over a hunderd people, not sure how many actual installed it but I've received a lot of positive feedback.

If you send me an email to phiggins()gmn-usa.com (replace the () with an @) I'll send you the latest copy.

FWIW PolarView can download satellite images directly from the program and overlay them on a chart for navigation.

Granted, you can't save them as BSB files - primarily because they don't make very good BSB charts (photographic images are not ideal for run length encoding)

When I attempt to unzip the file for you utility, I am asked for a password for the encrypted file. I am using WinRar.

Couldn't

have ooRexx4.1.0-windows-x86_32.exe install ooRexx. (up to date Vista)
It would check on rxapi running (none was, I checked) and then opened a window saying it could not determine whether rxapi was running or not, and aborted the installation.
I then reverted to ooRexx4.0.1 and it went smoothly.

Now Chartaid uses Google Map, and the bonus seems the lack of Google logo and copyright notice (plus more flexibility in choosing window size and zoom level)

Thanks a lot for integrating everything into a most useful application...

Now the sat/ aerial views that can be accessed with Bing are better in some parts of the world (e.g. some coastal areas in France). I was wondering if they could be made into .kap chartlets as well.

Thanks for the feedback SailorF54.

I'll have to look into oorexx V4.1.0 to see if it works with my programs.

Can you send me a link to the "sat/ aerial views that can be accessed with Bing " that you mentioned.

Hi Phiggins

Great app.
Bing is just the Microsoft version of Google
Bing
Select maps then 'bird's eye' from the 'road' drop-down menu
There are places in the world where Bing has aerial views which are more focused than Google's sat views
Exemple : Pouldon anchorage, Belle-Île island, South Brittany, France

It can also be accessed here under the name of LiveEarth, with the Bing Logo on
Exploring Google Maps
(push LiveEarth button on right)
with full geographical coordinates

A lot of people are reporting to me that the .KAP charts created by my GE2KAP program don't work on openCPN. Turns out they are having the same problem that I reported on this thread:

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...lem-51951.html

Because they have the pilot charts installed, they go over the 20 maximum limit for openCPN and it drops the largest scale (most detail) charts which is usually the chart produced by GE2KAP.

So if it doesn't work on openCPN try removing the pilot charts.
