Free Exchange of Charts for SeaClear II

Hi everybody,

I was trying to find some place to exchange the charts for Sea Clear II program FOR FREE, but I couldn't, so I opened this post.

I have some (whole Adriatic, most of the Greece, southern Italy, and some more) and if anyone needs them, let me know, I'll make the ftp:// somewhere so you can download them. Aslo if anyone has some other charts that she/he whishes to share please post it here.
Thnx
RR

Hello.

I've calibrated (with the support of the OpenCPN form) the whole set of 320 New Zealand nautical charts provided as tiff files by LINZ (Land Information New Zealand). You can find them following the links at MCE66 - Software

They work with OpenCPN and SeaClear II (and also with other navigation software). NOTE: those charts are for reference only and not to be used for Navigation.

Ciao, Marco.

Check the lower link in my signature. It includes the link from the post above, but also includes some more.

The ones that say they are for "vector" charts will NOT work in SeaClear.

The only raster charts I have linked (other than the ones above) are in the lower section, first box. They are raster charts of Brazil and Antarctica.

This is what sort of puzzles me (and it is not to detract from the value of exchanging charts). On the one hand I see why people may not want to pay exorbitant amounts for various commercial/official charts - sure, expensive. On the other hand, though - do you really risk taking your boat somewhere according to a chart of unknown pedigree? This same forum is full of stories of people running aground, breaking things, damaging boats or worse - and having a bad chart is, in my opinion, is one way to make bad situation worse. Unless you plan to do "armchair navigation", of course, so chart quality does not matter.

Disclaimer: I have zero interest in paid charts from any source, and I would be more than excited to have more free charts available, since that potentially increases a number of people that may like my applications. But at what cost? Don't go out there with a crappy chart - it isn't worth even a single call for a tow service and soft ungrounding. Really.

I would also love to get some free or low cost charts of Oz and/or the Pacific. We are currently delving into the whole charting/GPS thing at the moment, it's time to go beyond the region we have been playing in around Sydney and go to Tassie and Queensland.
