Very unsafe. Pull out the ipad to check some charts and they are gone! You may not be in a place where you can download them on the spot. They need to fix this!

Tell that to Aqua Map tech support. They do seem to pay attention to user input...

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

I thought AquaMaps required everyone to download new versions of their charts a couple of months ago? After you did there were other features added like the 3D mode. If you failed to do so, perhaps you passed some sort of deadline.

Yes, I downloaded all the charts after the update which introduced their 'new mapping technology'. The problem started shortly after that. I will contact their tech support and see what they say.

I suggest to have at least 2/3 GB of free storage available

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

I have over 60GB free on my ipad so that isn't an issue.

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

Got a reply back from Aquamaps tech support. They are aware of the problem and claim that IOS sometimes deletes the map tiles during an update. They have not been able to duplicate the problem but have learned about it from users. Doesn't sound like a fix is imminent.

I personally am not buying into the IOS deletes the files during an update explanation. I recently left Marathon FL headed to Bimini. I know my tiles of the Florida Keys were on the iPad when I left and they were gone when I got to Bimini. I don't think my iPad updated while underway.

If Aquamaps is your primary mapping app while on passage you best have a backup.

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

FWIW ...

I have a large number of files I have downloaded into iBooks. Many of them are manuals for things on the boat but also cruising guides and the like.

A few weeks ago iBooks started to delete the files on the device, it keeps them on the iCloud, but they have to reload to view them. Not all but many. And once downloaded a second time they may, or may not, disappear again.

There are MANY threads on the internet about this issue. It seems Apple is well aware of it and just says “It’s not a big, it a feature.”

I’ve spent a LOT of hours trying to figure out how to move these files over to my laptop but there seems to be no efficient way. It seems the only way to move them is to email them to myself. I have nearly a 1,000 files. You can imagine my joy.

All of this is to say that I’m deeply pissed at Apple for providing an unstable environment that absolutely requires a good internet connection at all times to assure file accessibility.

Is this related to the Aqua Maps problem of missing tiles? No clue!

I personally have never seen AM drop tiles. But I only use AM for planning, actual detailed navigation is done on INavEx using raster charts.

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

Sounds to me like the issues are related and it does seem to Apple's problem not Aquamaps. My problems also started about a week ago. I haven't checked my ibook files lately. Maybe I need to go have a look.
