Windlass Sprint 1500 - Sluggish

This morning when pulling anchor in Bermuda the windlass Sprint 1500 suddenly worked sluggish. We charged the batteries full and tried again, still the same sluggish performance. We checked voltage before the solenoid and this was above 12V. With the help of another sailor we cleaned all connections on the solenoid, brushed them and reconnected. Still sluggish behavior. This might be the motor then?

What do I do. Sail to the Bahamas and buy a new one or have a mechanic look at it in Bermuda?

Any advise please let me know because we want to sail in the next two days...

Check the voltage at the motor terminals when the windlass is raising the anchor. It should be within a volt of the battery voltage or not less than 11.5. If that is ok then maybe your motor is the cause.

Sometimes brushes can be the culprit. You can take the motor to an automotive electric shop and they can often replace brushes and bearings. I suspect that you will get better help in Bermuda.
