Windlass Spares

I am going to purchase some spares for my Lofrans Progress II. I have had no problems with the unit in the few years that I have owned it. I keep it under a cover when not in use. I used 2/0 cable to give me a calculated voltage drop of 3.2%.

Does any one have any experience with failure modes with this, or similar windlasses so as to help guide me in my purchases. Motor brushes seem to me to be an obvious purchase, but I don't know. I had one friend that had to replace the seals on his unit. But other than that I have not heard of any other issues.

Thank you

Re: Windlass Spares

Instead, I'd be tempted to have my unit sent to a repair shop for refurbishment. They should be able to catch parts nearing the end of their life-cycle, oil the unit and essentially you'll have a "new" unit again. I'm theorizing that would save money AND provide better reliability/peace of mind than a locker full of parts.

What say the experts?
