Quick vs. Maxwell windlass

Looking at a new windlass. 3/8" chain. Vertical. I think I'm down to a choice between the Quick Argo and the Maxwell Liberty 2500.

I really like the Maxwell's geared manual retrieval and great reputation.

I like the Quick's mostly stainless above deck, IP67 waterproof motor, and hinged hawser pipe cover. It has a good manual retrieval too but not geared.

Both have 3 year warranties. The Quick is a little cheaper. I looked at this Quick at Annapolis and was very impressed by the heavy duty construction. Much heavier than their smaller models.

Normally I'd go with more established player - Maxwell - but I really like stainless on deck over chrome.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this choice?

The Maxwell will out perform the Quick overall but not by much. They both are good so whichever way you go you'll be fine.

Both use the same motors from the same Italian specialist manufacturer so no need to worry about the water tightness of either.

Actually that hinged hawser cover has caused the odd issue but it is easily over come with a set screw to hold it down. It can pop up and then everything spews out on to the deck, not common but it can.

With the big drop in the NZ$ maybe the Maxwells will get cheaper now.
