Back splice 8 braight

For my secondary anchor I was planning 50’ G4 chain connected to 5/8 8 braight with a back splice. I’ve done this many times with 3 strand but for some reason I’ve a mental block with the 8 plaight.
Can anyone point me towards some clear instructions or video? There doesn’t seem to be a lot.

Defender has a set of guides. Here's a 12 strand eye splice; The priciple is the same for a back splice, and this should jog your memory. Four each way through the chain and tuck them sequentially.

I gotta say, I much prefer splicing three strand, but then all but two hoisting tackles on my boat are nylon.

Good luck with it.

Re: Back splice 8 braight

It's the same tucking as the eye splice you're probably put in it before, it just begins slightly differently. Half the strands go though the last link one way, half the other. Put a temporary seizing at the end of where you unlay so you can snug the line up tight to the link before you start tucking, and then start tucking each strand pair into the closest place it'll reach. Remember your tucks always travel in a straight line along the rope.
