No - but you might look to Canadian suppliers rather than US suppliers. Also the eastern Caribbean suppliers handle metric chain. Google "galvanized chain metric" or variation of the word order.

Not really. Just remember to mount the hydraulic system aft of the keel in order to balance out all the weight.

The best part of using this system on a 41 footer is that you can forget about purchasing one of those expensive 2nd generation anchors, and just drop a dozen or so fathoms of 160mm chain. You'll sleep like a baby.

oh yes, and another advantage of using such a system is that you'll never again have to reef because your Sail Area/Displacement ratio just went through the basement.

Out of curiosity, what form of S/S wire do fishing boats use, what grade of S/S and how often does it need replacing?

Twelve fathoms is not even two shackles. I think you might want a little more than that, and a stockless on the end of it.

But yeah, you'll sleep like a a baby . You can have the whole anchorage raft up to you. In fact, you might never move again . . .

At 6 feet each, wouldn't 12 fathoms be 72 feet?

Re: Anchor Cable

From Wikipedia: "There are 2 yards (6 feet) in an imperial or U.S. fathom.[1] Originally based on the distance between the fingertips of a man's outstretched arms, the size of a fathom has varied slightly depending on whether it was defined as a thousandth of an (Admiralty) nautical mile or as a multiple of the imperial yard. Formerly, the term was used for any of several units of length varying around 5–51⁄2 feet (1.5–1.7 m)."

I can hardly imagine the hugeness of an olden English sailor with a span of 11 feet between his outstretched arms - Mark1977's 132ft divided by 12 = 11 feet.

Re: Anchor Cable

Actually I measure from finger tip of the right hand to the finger tip of the left hand when the arms are out stretched to the side. That is One fathom. When measuring line and having to hold the line in each hand, I add a couple of inches due to the fingers being curled around said line. And that is close enough for Government's work. And seeing how I use to work for the Government, There is no problem in the measurement.
